Shantytown - NZ Travel

The gold rush in 1864 saw a population explosion from around 300 to 30,000 residents on the West Coast.  The isolation, the extreme weather and the rugged terrain produced stories of fortitude and ingenuity.  Shantytown tells these stories through a fascinating mix of experience and displays.  The village, with 30 shops and buildings to explore shows life the way it used to be!
