Departure points:
Queenstown: The Station Building
Duke Street Entrance, Queenstown

Te Anau: from the Luxmore Hotel, Main St, Te Anau

Departures: Up to 3 times a week depending on dates and minimum numbers.

Departs from: Either Queenstown or Te Anau. If staying in Queenstown you will be picked up on Day 1 from your hotel/accommodation between 6:30am and 7:00am to depart, or if staying in Te Anau you will need to make your way to the Sandfly Café by 9:00am. On Day 3 you will arrive back in Te Anau at approximately 4:30pm and Queenstown at approximately 7:00pm.

Parking: For clients with hire cars or self drive, please make arrangements to leave your car in Queenstown. Generally the hotels/motels where you are staying will store you vehicle while you are walking, if you are staying on your return. It would however pay to confirm this with your accommodation.

 

Season: Late October – Late April

Child Age: 8 to 14 years.

Location: Hollyford Track is located amidst the stunning scenery of the Hollyford Valley, Fiordland National Park.

Transport: Transport is provided, beginning and ending in either Queenstown or Te Anau

The Hollyford Track is an incredible ‘memories last a lifetime’ 3 Day/2 Night all inclusive Guided Wilderness Experience. Located in Fiordland National Park (World Heritage Area), Hollyford Track is a very special place and a very special adventure. It’s a walk from the heart of New Zealand - the Southern Alps, to its western boundary - the Tasman Sea. Imagine walking into a world that has remained largely unchanged since the age of the dinosaur. You’ll travel through scenery that is geologically spectacular and ever changing - snow capped mountains, glaciers, rainforests, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, sand dunes, reefs and surf. The experiences are just as diverse, it’s a walk that includes hiking through World Heritage wilderness, wildlife interaction, a captivating Jet Boat ride, exploring historical sights, and culminates in a stunning scenic flight to Milford Sound.

Help Notes:

Payment Terms:

A deposit of $250 per person is required immediately upon confirmation to hold the booking.  Full payment required in our office 6 weeks prior to departure.  Deposit non refundable within 90 days of walk.

Pre Track Breifing:

Pre-departure briefing is at 5.30pm, the day prior to departure (Check in at 5.15pm) at Ground Floor of 'The Station' building. Duke St entrance (look for the Hollyford Track Briefing signage). In Te Anau the Pre-Track Briefing is held at the Luxmore Hotel, Main Street. Packs and jackets are available at briefing.

Dietary requirements:
If you have any food allergies, or if you are a vegetarian, vegan, gluten free or other preference, please let us know in advance so that we can make your time with us as comfortable as possible.

Fitness Requirements:

Undulating walk. Moderate difficulty. Total 37km's walking distance over 3 days. Average level of fitness required

Accomodation:

Is based on Twin Share rates. Guests can request to be 'paired' up with someone if travelling as a single, and can still pay the twin rate. If they request their own private single room they may need to pay a surcharge (depending on availability), surcharge on application.

Please note, suitacases cannot be stored whilst guests are on the track; these should be stored at your hotel.

 Hollyford Track Guided Walk 

The Hollyford Track is an incredible ‘memories last a lifetime’ 3 Day/2 Night all inclusive Guided Wilderness Experience.

Itinerary:

Day One: Waterfalls, Pyke River Lodge, Glow Worms

Walking Distance: Approx 17kms (10.6miles)

Depart Queenstown at 7am, travel alongside the beautiful Lake Wakatipu and on to Te Anau. Those starting in Te Anau join the trip at 9am. After a brief comfort stop, depart for the Hollyford Valley and travel through the majestic Eglington Valley to the start of the Track in the Hollyford Valley visiting Gunn's Camp museum on the way. Then re-trace the footsteps of early explorers along the Hollyford River to Pyke River Lodge. As the Track undulates gently through native beech forest and beside tumbling waterfalls enjoy interesting historical tales and interpretation of the forest and bird life. In the evening you can visit our nearby glow-worm colony.

 

Day Two: Lakes, Jet Boating, 1000 Year Old Trees and Wildlife Experience

Walking Distance: Approx 12kms (7miles)

Begin your day with a short walk to Lake Alabaster and learn of the history and geology of the area whilst in the midst of stunning surroundings. Cross Fiordland's longest swing bridge and then enjoy a captivating Jet Boat journey down the Hollyford River and across Lake McKerrow to the historic site of Jamestown, the intended capital of the South Island in the late 19th century. Walk through the ancient Podocarp forest (New Zealand native pines) with huge Rimu, Totara and Kahikatea trees wrapped in massive Rata vines. Then visit the fur seal colony at Long Reef on the wild West Coast. You may see the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin. Spend the night at Martins Bay Lodge.

 

Day Three: Martins Bay Beach and Coastline /Scenic Flight to Milford Sound

Walking Distance: Approx 8kms (5 miles)

Travel by Jet Boat to the beach and explore the seven kilometre Martins Bay Beach, sand dunes and lagoon. Learn about its history and its plant, sea and bird life. Return to Martins Bay Lodge and then enjoy a scenic coastal flight to Milford Sound. Board your coach for your return journey to Queenstown or Te Anau. Arrive back in Te Anau by 5 pm and Queenstown by approximately 7.30 pm.
