Whale Watch Kaikoura is a multiple national and international award winning operation and New Zealand’s only marine based whale watching company offering an exciting up-close encounter with the world’s largest toothed predator the Giant Sperm Whale in their natural environment.

Operating Hours:

Summer: 6.30am to 7.00pm.

Winter: 7.00am to 5.00pm.

Closed Christmas Day.


Distance to Town: 5 minute walk from the main centre.


Food & Beverage: Available from Flukes Cafe adjacent to the Whale Watch reservations office.

Giant Sperm Whales are the stars of the show and year-round residents.  Come face to face with these magnificent creatures in their own environment aboard vessels designed specifically for this purpose.  Other species include migratory Humpback Whales, tiny Hector dolphins, the high spirited  Dusky dolphins and fur seals.

Suitable for Children:  Minimum age is 3 years old, although Whale Watch Kaikoura maintains the right to raise the age limit depending on sea and weather conditions at the time of check in, this decision is made by your tour skipper.

Departures:  7.15am, 10.00am and 12.45pm all year. An additional tour is scheduled at 3.30pm during summer months (November to March)

Duration:  Allow 3.5 hours
