The Silky Oak Chocolate Company
The only comprehensive chocolate museum in the southern hemisphere. It tells the story of a food whose past is as rich as its flavour. Bringing it to life with colourfully illustrated texts, life sized tableaux complete with sound effects and a huge collection of chocolate paraphernalia dating from a 2000 year old Mayan chocolate pot to modern commercial gimmicks.

Location: 1131 Link Road, Napier. 

 

Operating Hours: Monday-Friday: 9.00am to 4.00pm

Weekends: 10.00am to 4.00pm

 

Food and Beverage: Available from the cafe.

 

Child Ages: 1 to 12 years

Self guided admission into the Chocolate "Thru the Ages" museum. Be transported through the mists of time some 3,000 years. Learn about chocolate, how it has evolved through the centuries to the tantalising, silky smooth chocolate we all know and love today. View our 2,500 year old Mayan Chocolate pot.

Time Required: 30 to 120 minutes.


Triple Chocolate Dipper

This tour is chocolate overload. It includes chocolate tasting at our factory shop, entry into the chocolate "Thru the Ages" museum, chocolate drink (or tea/coffee), chocolate muffin/slice (accompanied by liquid chocolate and cream) at our cafe and a bonus take home gift - chocolate of course.

Minimum Numbers: No minimum numbers.

Maximum Numbers: No maximum numbers.

Suitable for Children: All ages.

Time Required: 120 minutes.

 


Triple Chocolate Temptation

This tour is the same as the Triple Chocolate Dipper except it is guided (time requested). At the factory a staff member will explain the chocolate making process and will accompany you through the museum. Your guide will leave you once you have been seated at the Cafe. The take home gift is a larger box of chocolates than the Triple Chocolate Dipper.

Minimum Numbers: 2.

Maximum Numbers: No maximum.

Suitable for Children: All ages

Time Required: 60 to 90 minutes.
